Ellipsis
I decided to create a rule based on my own writing style. I tend to write in a style that represents my thinking…so I wrote about sentence flow and the use of ellipsis. Here is my rule.
When writing a complete thought that trails off into another complete thought, connect the two ideas with ellipsis.
Example:
I went to the post office and forgot to mail the letter...Oh well.
I like to use ellipsis because they give the sentence a sense of extension...get it?
