Gordon Wykes Style Rule Essay
Thanks for taking the time to look at my paper. Please post as many negative comments as possible. Its short I know, and I need to add quotes.
With increased I would make increased present tense internet use and use of alternative spellings in advertisements, more writers' are incorporating non-traditional spellings of words' there are some plural words, add apostrophe. This not only creates confusion with people unaware of the language on the (of) the internet, but also demonstrates an inability to understand appropriateness, audience, and distinguishing between types of language. While slang is also inappropriate explain what slang is, this violation is much worse, why do you think this violation is much worse? I think you could elaborate here and the only probable application is writing a literary internet chat or a specialized website.
His shoes were really kewl. (cool)
I am hungry but not too hungry; I could just go for something lite. (light)
The Smashing Pumpkins are alright. (all right)
The man removed his labtop from his case and started typing. (laptop)good
This rule was inspired mainly by the rule from Strunk and White against using unorthodox spelling Re-word this sentence, it sounds odd. I think you could say, "My rule was inspired by Strunk and White's rule that prohibits the use of unorthodox spelling."-AH. The rule is extremely important and common sense to experienced writers, but less experienced writers need serious reminders on this rule, especially those who don’t know the meaning of orthodox.Interesting point...made me lol.....-AH
It is a personal pet peeve of mine. What is a personal pet peeve of yours?-AH I regularly use the internet, but refuse to learn the language. Believe it or not this is the first time I am LOLing (turning an abbreviation into a gerund how wrong is that, I am laughing out louding?). I have never been so confused as to say WTF, and even though I am addressing this issue, it still feels wrong on so many levels to write that here. Why does it feel wrong? These particular abbreviations along with TTYL have become increasingly common in speech as well as writing. Many young people don’t even think of WTF as containing a swear word they use it so much; many simply see it as a way of expressing disbelief.I wouldn't exactly say this, I think older people say WTF without thinking about its true nature.-AH All people don’t have the same experiences and by using WTF with some one who doesn’t understand it, and they look it up later could be big trouble. Students in our secondary schools don’t think twice about using not only alternate spellings, but also liberally use internet abbreviations. I took me at least a month to figure out what idk means, and was then upset that they were at least guessing on quizzes.
I am currently taking my first year of Spanish classes. It is extremely difficult learning a new language, but the simplicity of Spanish pronunciation based on spelling. This sentence is awkward. I'm not sure how pronunciation and spelling are connected here. It makes me appreciate all of the people who are able to learn English fluently. Why confuse people more.Do you mean this as a question? What confuses people more? If I visited Mexico and found half of the words I knew were useless because of alternate spellings I would be pretty upset. Although internet language is not a different language from English, it certainly is a different dialect, and linguistics will tell you that it is linguistically equal, but a future employer will be saying WTF to himself while reading an e-mail containing WTF. I would consider breaking this up into two sentences, or rearranging it so there are fewer pauses. Very funny point, though!

This is an interesting topic and I really appreciate the point you brought up about appropriateness and audience. I think you could really elaborate there to add more content and to make it even more relevant. Some of your sentences have too many pauses and/or are awkward to read. I would consider revising those. There are several places where you could expand upon your ideas.

I really liked your topic choice, it's really relevant with how we communicate these days and it's a nice twist on the rules offered within the texts. It's a nice start. Remember to incorportate more from both of the readings and to write to an audience beyond the classroom. It's a good start, it'll be interesting to see what the finished product is. Good luck :)
