Save the Best for Last - Emphasis at the End (Nicole Wiseman)This is a featured page

The information with the most emphasis should be placed at the end of the sentence.

A. Cindy thought the movie was rather dull, for the most part.

To increase emphasis on the dullness of the movie the sentence should be reorganized to read

B. For the most part, Cindy thought the movie was rather dull.

By placing the emphasis at the end of the sentence it allows for a smoother transition into the next sentence.

A. The school was closed down today, because of an illness. Many parents had to stay home with their children.

The reader is confused as to why the parents had to stay home. Are the parents sick or were the children? By shifting the emphasis of the closed school to the end we have a better understanding of the meaning of the statement.

B. Because of an illness the school was closed down today. Many parents had to stay home with their children.

This is more like 175 words instead of 150. What kinds of things could you cut to make it fit?
