Don't use formal words when a common word is available.
Just because a word may sound important does not mean that is makes your writing important.
If I write: I will be 4 score and 3 this coming August, versus I will forty-three this August. The first does sound any less shocking to me. Let your ear be your guide if it sounds wordy to you , chances are it will sound wordy to your audience.
